While doing construction on North Ocean Avenue, Patchogue Village workers uncovered and removed the remains of a bygone era. In the early 1900's, the Suffolk Traction Company operated a Trolley Line which ran from South Ocean Avenue to the Holtsville LIRR Depot. Although the Suffolk Traction Company went out of business in 1919, the tracks which carried the trolley have remained buried beneath layers of asphalt, that is until recently.
The photos shown show the tracks before they were removed and also tracks which have been donated to the Historical Society. The Greater Patchogue Historical Society commends Patchogue Village for the donations of such items as the trolley tracks which will be used in a future exhibit in order to preserve a part of Patchogue's past!
